Global Warming Facts

Global warming is one of the most controversial topics today. But what is the definition of global warming? Is global warming real? If so, what are the causes of global warming? Is the Earth’s temperature really rising? If it is, how rapid is the increase, and will it benefit or harm humanity and nature? Are human-generated greenhouse gas emissions to blame? Just what are the global warming facts?

Contrary to what is being reported in the media and asserted by many politicians, the debate about global warming is not over, as there is no consensus among climate scientists. Sharp disagreement exists within the scientific community regarding whether or not it is occuring, and if so, what the causes of global warming are, the consequences of global warming, and the solutions to global warming.

The majority of the mainstream media tells one side of the story: Global warming will destroy the earth and it's our fault. The earth as we know it soon becomes unrecognizable as millions of species die, the earth continues to become hotter by the day, and major cities are wiped out as sea level rises due to the melting ice caps. We will be left with major environmental and economic catastrophes, the magnitutde of which we have never seen.

They continue...The only way to save ourselves is to take Draconian measures to significantly reduce greenhouse gases (primarily carbon dioxide) which are the cause of global warming. This will cost every family thousands of dollars each year because everything will be more expensive as more government regulations are put in place, which will also put people out of work, and increase our taxes as well. But it will all be worth it to save the planet from the destruction that lies ahead. How many times has that scenario been put forth from every corner of the mainstream media? Is it true?

In short, the answer is NO. Climate science simply does not support those conclusions, so why would the media and some scientists jump on that bandwagon? It is safe to say that a large majority of those who believe that global warming exists and that mand-made carbon dioxide is the cause are liberals. Therefore, the answer to why they would espouse this despite the science lies in their solution...bigger government.

If they can convince us that we're doomed unless we heed their dire predictions, and that government is the only entity that is truely capable of coming to the rescue, guess what happens? Then any obstacles to bigger government have been removed. Like it does with so many problems, governement will throw money at the 'problem' the radical environmentslists and their llies in he media have created, increase regulations, and add bureauacrcies. So not only do liberals get the bigger government they wanted, but they also get job security at the same time.

The global warming hoax is simply the latest method the left is using to accomplish their goals of more government control of our economy and our lives.

However, the scientific evidence does not support the consclusions that: 1) the earth is warming, as every year since 1998 it has been cooling; or 2) greenhouse gases emmited by machines have any impact on global temperatures.

Center For Science and Public Policy
The Center for Science and Public Policy (CSPP) is a non-profit, non-partisan public policy organization. CSPP relies on scientific experts in many nations and the vast body of peer-reviewed literature to help lawmakers, policy makers, and the media distinguish between scientific findings that are agenda-driven and those that are based on accepted scientific methods and practices. In a timely manner, the Center's Science Watch Team alerts policy makers, the media, and the public to unreliable scientific claims and unjustified alarmism which often lead to public harm. We strive for a fair and balanced examination of science.

Center for the Study of CO2 & Global Change
The Center for the Study of Carbon Dioxide and Global Change was created to disseminate factual reports and sound commentary on new developments in the world-wide scientific quest to determine the climatic and biological consequences of the ongoing rise in the air's CO2 content.  It meets this objective through weekly online publication of its CO2 Science magazine, which contains editorials on topics of current concern and mini-reviews of recently published peer-reviewed scientific journal articles, books, and other educational materials.  In this endeavor, the Center attempts to separate reality from rhetoric in the emotionally-charged debate that swirls around the subject of carbon dioxide and global change.  In addition, to help students and teachers gain greater insight into the biological aspects of this phenomenon, the Center maintains on-line instructions on how to conduct CO2 enrichment and depletion experiments in its Global Change Laboratory (located in its Education Center section), which allow interested parties to conduct similar studies in their own homes and classrooms.

Competitive Enterprise Institute
CEI is a public interest group dedicated to free enterprise and limited government. We believe that the best solutions come from people making their own choices in a free marketplace, rather than government intervention. Since it was founded by Fred L. Smith, Jr. in 1984, CEI has grown to a team of over 40 policy experts and staff. If the government has written rules to regulate it, we have an opinion how it could be done better. Our staff of public policy experts frequently produces groundbreaking research, but our work does not stop there. It is not enough to simply identify and articulate solutions to problems; it is also necessary to defend and promote those solutions, both to prominent decision makers and people around the world. That's why CEI reaches out to the public and the news media to ensure that our ideas are heard, work with policymakers to ensure that they are implemented, and, when necessary, take our arguments to court. This “full service approach” helps make us an effective and powerful force for freedom.

The Heartland Institute
The Heartland Institute is a national nonprofit research and education organization, founded in 1984. It is not affiliated with any political party, business, or foundation. Heartland's mission is to discover, develop, and promote free-market solutions to social and economic problems. Such solutions include parental choice in education, choice and personal responsibility in health care, market-based approaches to environmental protection, privatization of public services, and deregulation in areas where property rights and markets do a better job than government bureaucracies. The Heartland Institute produces five monthly publications on budget and tax issues, environment and climate, health care reform, information technology and telecommunications, and school reform.

Institute for Energy Research
The Institute for Energy Research (IER) is a not-for-profit organization that conducts intensive research and analysis on the functions, operations, and government regulation of global energy markets. IER maintains that freely-functioning energy markets provide the most efficient and effective solutions to today’s global energy and environmental challenges and, as such, are critical to the well-being of individuals and society. No financial support is sought for or accepted from government sources.
