Separation
of Church and State: Religious Freedom
Religious
Freedom Today
- Under Attack - |
|
Religious
freedom is under attack in
our country today. The present-day
hostility toward religion in
general and Christianity in
particular is both unprecedented
and discriminatory. This is
clearly not what our Founding
Fathers desired. They wanted
religion to be intertwined
in every aspect of life, both
public and private. See for
yourself that there is no such
thing as separation
of church and state in
the Constitution, and what
our Founding Fathers had to
say about it.
Just how far
has this bigotry gone today?
The following few examples
show the lengths to which activists
judges and others who bitterly
despise Christianity have gone
to squash any semblance of
religion or its affects in
society. (From "The
Hammer of Hostility in the
Public Arena", Coral
Ridge Ministries)
- A student attempted to
pray silently before a math
test. He was marched to the
principal's office and forced
to write one hundred times, "I
will not pray in class." Our
students may not be able
to read or write, but at
least we're ridding their
minds of anything religious!
- Parents of 7th grade children
were encouraged to come in
by the school and share how
they celebrate the holidays.
Several parents explained
about Hanukkah and the Menorah.
When one parent began explaining
about Christmas, she was
told by the teacher, "That's
not allowed. That's religious."

While homosexuality is
openly practiced and encouraged
by colleges and universities,
openly Christian professors
and students are more and
more coming under fire
in this supposedly 'tolerant'
atmosphere. A few years
ago, at Harvard, a Christian
group was harassed for
the politically incorrect
crime of distributing a
magazine that explained
the Christian way out of
homosexuality.
- A fourth grader brought his
Bible to school one day to
read during free time. His
teacher took it away and
scolded him, telling him never
to bring it back. As part of
his punishment, he was forced
to sit in a corner facing the
wall. Later, he was interrogated
by the principal and detained
in her office all day.
- In California, city officials
built a statue of the Aztec
god Quetzalcoatl, costing
taxpayers half a million
dollars. The mayor said the
Aztec religion possessed "those
elements that seek to elevate
the human consciousness to
a higher plane." The
irony is that the Aztec religion
routinely engaged in human
sacrifice! Yet the same city
council ruled that there
was no room for a manger
with baby Jesus in it.
- On one hand, the government
and courts prohibit the public
expression of pro-Christian
symbols. On the other hand,
they sanctions anti-Christian
expressions. For example,
the publically-funded National
Endowments for the Arts has
funded many indecent and
obscene anti-Christian "art" for
years, including a naked
man with an erection holding
a naked baby, the bust of
Jesus Christ as a transvestite,
a picture a Christ as a heroin
junkie, a photograph of a
crucifix upside down in a
jar of the artist's urine,
or sketches of Christ engaged
in homosexual acts.
